The beginning of my blues journey Part 2.

In 1988, I had the great fortune to be a part of the U.S. Army, stationed in Fort Hood Tx. During the time I was stationed there, I had the opportunity to be in a band called Section 8. It was during this time I started to learn the bass guitar, and learn about playing with other band members.
Follow up:
Our band was very focused on 80’s metal. Really, I can say that there really wasn’t much blues playing. I did delve into listening to other styles of music, including my introduction to Texas style blues. It was during this time I continued to develop my playing style. I actually started mapping out entire scales on fret boards on paper during my spare time!
During this time I learned the importance of other music styles. I was exposed to different styles I had not been used to, and learned to pretty much hate all music that wasn’t what I liked. What I found myself doing is being so selective that I missed opportunities to see excellent musicians, hear great music because I was so closed minded! I just think I was 30 minutes from Austin TX, with a group of guys who went every weekend to listen to music, and I stayed back and listened to my stupid walkman. Although I could recite every lyric of the songs I listened to, I became to narrow.
Now, I listen to different styles of music, even Kiddy Pop (just ask my girls) and every once and a while, I find myself liking something I might have never listened to on my own.
My next entry will be very interesting!
