Think outside the effects box - Freqdistort
By KenBJammen on Mar 8, 2010 | In Welcome
What if there really were no limits in creating good analog effects. What if the mind was really the limit. Well if it was, I would be new creating effects every day. I want to take some time to think outside the effects box. This week I will submit a few effects for your review that I created.
The first effect I will submit for review is the Frequency dependant OD. This overdrive takes 1 / 2 of the signal and distorts it, while keeping the lower frequencies clean. If you were to purchase the analog box it would look something like this:
Follow up:

The first effect control is Fx, this sets the frequency that decides which part of the signal goes to the distortion channel and the part that goes directly through, unaffected. Od signifies the amount of drive, T the Tone and the V the volume of the overdriven portion (frequencies). The OD portion is driven by dual JRC4558D op amps.
You may say interesting idea, well I have some sample clips to present of how this effect will sound.
First the clean sound

Then the sound with the drive set at 50%

Then the sand sound with the drive set at 100%

It presents a very interesting tone with the low frequencies staying unaltered and the higher frequencies getting some gain. As you go up the fretboard, the drive becomes more evident. As each note is a combination of several frequencies, there is some distortion mixed in with the clean tone, which presents itself with a unique mix of clean and distorted tone. Turning the distortion up from 50% to 100% justs adds a tad bit more distortion
Interesting at the least…. I have the ability to program these effects, but to bring them in to practicum, not at this time. If you have an effect building company and you are interested in building this or any effect give me a quick message.| « Single Coil's Manifesto part 2 | Single Coil's Manifesto part 1 » |
