Good day to everyone. This is the official announcement of Burlap and Blues contest XI. This is our eleventh on line contest (hence the name) and we again will be offering a prize(s) for the best tunes.

The topic for this contest is flip a non-blues tune into a blues tune

Here is an explanation of the topic.

Take your favorite, or non favorite blues tune and turn it into a blues tune. Read the judging categories to give your tune a better chance at winning! Do a collab and get bonus points, do it with a new guitar get bonus points, do a youtube and get double bonus points..

Tunes will be judges in the following categories:

1. Difficulty of song. Is the song odd meter, is the song a speed metal song, is the song a polka? 20 points
2. Outcome of song. Did you make the song a blues song. Did you consider your roots. Does the song sound like blues. 30 points
3. Overall quality of guitar playing. Does it sound good. 30 points
4. Overall production. 20 points. Does the recording appropriately match the style playing. If you are playing an delta acoustic blues, does the recording sound like an acoustic blues or is it scooped?

Follow up:

10% bonus for a collab. If you collab and win, I will send the prize to the person named first in the collab. It will be your responsibility to fight over the prize
10% bonus for a new guitar. If you play with a new guitar that you have gotten since SEPTEMBER 2010, you will get the new guitar bonus.
20% bonus for posting a youtube of the song. Any youtube of your entry that links to BAB will be eligible for 20% bonus.

Raw scores will be 0-100, adjusted scores will be 0-145.2

A BAB member may submit up to 2 tracks.
Submissions will be NOT BE anonymous.
Submissions will be up and running by April 3, 2011

PRIZES:

First place – One overdrive / distortion guitar pedal (still being secured, but it will be by the end of the contest). Value to be determined. I will post the pedal once I figure out which one it is. I had one for contest X.
Second Place - $15 BP gas card... The winner must post a picture of themselves using it in spill baby spill..

The fine print

Legal Crapola:

Only those who are current and active members of BAB with more than 1 post as of April 1, 2011 are eligible to enter. Again, the decision of the individual judges are final. If you don’t like it, or think you might not, don’t enter. On April 30, 2011, the contest will close. If there are not more than 8 entries, the contest will be prolonged for 1 week to ensure that there are 8 entries. If the contest ends with less than 4 entries, the contest will not be ran.

Judges will be independent of BAB and have been made clearly aware of the rules.

By entering this contest you agree to hold Burlapandblues.com, and its business partners harmless. What this means is that you agree if you enter and loose you have no legal whine ability or other legal action etc…..

Anyone found cheating in any matter whatsoever will be disqualified and prohibited from entering contests for the next year.
