Title: Picked Up A 50 Year Old Uke
Post by: DannyDV8 on March 07, 2014, 11:08:31 PM
It's an early '60s Roy Smeck soprano that was made by Harmony of Chicago.  Roy Smeck was considered to be the wizard of stringed instruments from the '20s through the '50s.  He was a pretty amazing cat, and many companies including Gibson featured Roy Smeck models.  Harmony figured they could sell a lot of ukuleles if they plastered his name on them, and they did!  This one is pretty much flawless, including the case.  Te fretboard shows a little bit of wear, but outside of that, there isn't a mar on it.  I got it for $60. and though as a player it might not be worth a whole bunch, I figure as an historical piece, it has it's merit!  It's cute as Hell, and it plays well!
