At 6k, I don't think they will be taking the market by storm. When China makes it the price will be 99.95  I bet when some whiz kid grows up playing one, he will achieve phenominal speed and fluidity.
Tons of friction has been eliminated. At 3 lbs back problems are eliminated and you can store it without worry of hot or cold.

I dont see anything there that justifys the price other than they are not mass produced.

My buddy Tim has played a steinberger for years as a lap steel.

There is something about the wood being part of the equation for resonance.  Certainly someone in China might try to replicate and it would be a good thing as the guitar should be cheaper than 6k, considering I can get just about any custom shop for that price. Even my wife's custom build 12 string taylor wasn't much over taht
