dude...

I was getting a couple things in my local GC a couple days ago - after having read the Garland piece - and one of the pro audio guys said they had just laid off 12 district managers. The former student of mine from a long time ago, another district manager, was one that was spared. He's been there for over 30 years For the moment, I suppose. But there seemed to be no real rhyme or reason to who they let go, in the employee's mind at least.

I guess I should be grateful that I've got some decent instruments, gear, and a way to keep doing things. But I hate to see the way businesses defeat themselves in the process of getting more and more.

Kind of envious - I've wanted to do a charter, but never sailed.

But we've been to various islands for snorkeling a lot - most recently St Croix. Followed a couple spotted eagle rays around for a bit by a very deserted east end beach. Very cool!

Flights? - meh - necessary evil.

I saw a number of powered catamarans for charter.  They are trying to get to the "I'd like to do this, but never sailed" crowd.  In reality, the actual sailing is a small part of it.  The main things are being able to anchor or pick up mooring balls; and understanding how to run the boats systems: electrical, plumbing, etc.   Not unlike an oversized, overbuilt, RV.  Navigation in the BVI is about as easy as it gets.  All the boats in charter have GPS/chartplotters, and you can hop island to island and see where you are going (not out of sight of land.)

This trip kind of reignited my desire to move where I can have a sailboat in the ocean.  (Without flying to get to the boat.)  Along with becoming eligible to retire in May.

BTW, I put up pictures on my FB page.  (Rich Reavis)
Over Christmas one year we did a cruise on a tall masted ship, not a big boat, just a 120 or so. It was all BVI, so, yeah, it would be pretty simple. I had a memorable day at Ivan's Stress Free Bar on Jost Van Dyke.  I think the trick for us at this point would be finding compatible couples, possibly somebody who had a bit more experience. Or a couple for hire as captain/cook.

One day we'll do it.

Denise and I travel with gig bags all the time - She got one by Warwick, that came with her MusicMan bass. So we got another one for her new P-Bass. Got it from a mom and pop in Lisle IL that does eBay. She made a mistake on her order and got the guitar size instead. I was shy a case for the gold tele, so instead of sending it back. It's actually a really substantial case, thick foam, great storage. They're called Rockbags.

We actually took our electrics, my LP and her Jazz bass, across to England in gig bags in 2003. But we persuaded the airlines to let us take them as carryons. Risky. Doubt we could do that now, though.

The Katy show was technically very good I thought. Like Danny, she's not on my playlist, although I just did a track for Denise for one of her parodies.

Sad about the Seahawks, very possibly could have had it had they not been protecting the clock by doing a pass play. But the catch that got them down there? Amazing!!

I would post a picture of my newest guitar, the gold tele, but well, .... uh, just go look at Danny's!

This is kind of weird but it seems that half the time when I click on my link for the BAB site, it's like the server goes into hiding. Then other days it's fine. Starting to get our travel schedule organized for California in September. Again.

I'm starting to anticipate that place, we've had some great times there.

Spent Christmas and New Years in Chicago. Nothing happened of any consequence at all. Other than my ex-wife died of cancer the Wednesday before Christmas.

Rented a little coach house in Des Plaines to serve as a location from which to shop for that elusive condo. Not much happening here other than cold, and I'm headed back to CO end of the week.

Next trip for us is Belize in April. Then Indiana, then the Carolinas.

Sorry bout your leg, Danny. That's been a long struggle.

Some of the time this site won't load. Sometimes it will. And a lot of times I look but don't talk. I'm more of a lurker....

My wife's mom had surgery on her leg the end of Oct, a carcinoma had formed at the site of a bruise she got when she fell. So we were in Illinois at the beginning of November. I traveled back to CO to do some necessary editing, then came back to Illinois in time to fly to St Croix for some beach time. I was pretty relaxed but Denise was worried about her mom most of the time.

We got back in last nite and I thought I'd stop in to say hey. "Hey"

We put an offer in on a condo, the original closing date was Dec 1st, put has got pushed back until we get some numbers form the HOA. Second base in IL.

I have been enjoying the gold Tele. It's so flashy it's embarrassing. Got to be dead to yourself to take her out. But it sounds schweet!

I re-purchased some of his solo work, Songs For A Tailor and Harmony Row, the day I heard of it. Real out-of-the-box music composition, even if the lyrics aren't his. Also got a CD called Jack Bruce Collector's Edition that had Gary Moore and Ginger Baker on it.

I remember seeing him with Leslie West and Corky Laing, also very good show.

RIP

I saw that a couple nites ago. Saw another guy do something similar some years ago. Amazing what you can do when you have the drive. I don't have the drive to do that with my feet.
