Guitars / Ibanez RG6UC Prestige

I love this guitar. Probably more of a metal player's guitar but I love how it plays. The neck has a wider nut making it easier to play cleanly. Flat radius ebony fretboard, big fat frets. It plays and feels beautiful. The back of the neck has next to no finish on it. My hand slides on it effortlessly. It came with Bare Knuckle Aftermath pups designed with "New Metal" in mind. They sounded OK through my Two Rock Bloomfield Drive if I backed the volume way off. Actually better than just OK. But I'm a P90 guy these days, specifically Buddha hand wound P90s (available on Reverb), A4 neck A5 bridge. Very snappy. The BD is the best sounding amp I've ever owned and the Buddha P90s (A4 and A5 combo) are the best sounding pups through that amp. Such a snappy/clean overdriven sound. Not at all muddy. Makes me play cleaner as any mistake comes through crystal clear. The BD seems to like P90s of any stripe. I have a Telecaster with Lollar P90s and a Godin with Lollar P90s for humbucker slot. the Buddhas sound better. So much so that I swapped the humbuckers in my Les Paul, Firebird Studio and the Ibanes with the P90s for humbucker slot. You could plug a broomstick guitar into the BD and it would sound decent I think. I hardly ever play my Strats any more. The only guitar I have with Humbuckers is a Gibson 335. Not going to swap them out, it sounds fantastic. I have another Tele with the original pups that sound great. But I can't seem to put the Ibanez down. I haven't played a blues jam with it yet, probably get laughed out of the joint. I'm taking it to the next one I go to though. Don't know if you guys remember my old go to Strat "Esmerelda." I put Jeff Beck Fender noiseless pups in it, I like them a lot. I have to back the volume off a bit as they're pretty hot pups. I think the BD likes pups that are less hot. I need to try some underwound single coils in my black Strat. I'll order up some underwound Buddhas and see how they sound. Hope y'all are doing well. Rock on!

The Sg arrived a couple of days ago, I immediately cut off the '9s that were on it, oiled the fretboard, put 10s on it, and raised the action a bit on the treble side, only to discover it played even better lover than it was before.  (You couldn't slip a butterfly's fart between the strings and the fretboard to begin with)  The thing's a little monster, and well worth the money!  Tone for days and days!  It's so light it's like playing air guitar!

Sweet Danny! I was looking at your guitar online and a Firebird with one pickup popped up. 1300.00 smackers. It's a real Firebird with the neck through the body, has the little ridge going across the body. Upside down headstock. Silver metallic. Very tempting. Looks like Gibson is getting their poop in a group finally!

Yo Chuck!   I used to have a Fender Lace Silver in my mid. position and a Seymour Duncan quarter ponder in the lead position on my 65 Strat which had I liked the sound big time.  I sold my 65 Strat prior and put the original pups back in it when I sold it.  I now have a newer Strat which has Fender Custom 50 hotter pickups in it which I dig.   Great info on your pickups and jam down my friend! 8) 8) 8)

My buddy Tom had Lace Sensors in his Strat. He had them set up with the bridge at the neck and visa versa. He said he loved them. I've been digging the P90s so much that the Strat pups sound a little thin. Hoping the Jeff Becks remedy the situation. Rock on EC!

I've been experimenting around with various pickups. My orange Strat had the original noiseless pups that came with it. Noiseless but also kinda weak. Swapped them out for some Fender V-Mod pups. I liked them better than the noiseless but still not that great compared to the tone I'm getting from the Buddha P90s (for humbucker slot) in my Gibson Firebird Studio. Played a blues jam last night. The jam sucked but I let a guy play his Strat with Jeff Beck noiseless pups through my amp. I was impressed with the tone. Bought a set, going to install them in my orange Strat. I'll let you know how that works out. Still waiting for the Buddha P90s for my Les Paul and Ibanez Prestige RG6UCS. Rock on dudes.

Reading the specs on that... I'm jealous! " Comfort and playability were two of Gibsonís primary concerns when they were designing the SG Special. Youíll be delighted by how this guitarís fast SlimTaper neck profile comfortably fits your hand in just the right way. For your playing pleasure, the rosewood fingerboard is buffed to silky smoothness and bound with rolled edges so that no fret ends impede your dexterity. The frets are dressed to perfection using a Plek Pro machine for optimized playability. Typically reserved for top-dollar custom guitars, this process levels the frets with pinpoint precision, providing you with the most playable fretboard youíre likely to own." Kick ass!!! Wish I had the dough, I'd be getting one my own seff!
Chuck:  $32.00 a month!
Damn! Mighty tempting... I think my Firebird Studio has the same specs and I absolutely love the way it plays. I have a few medical issues to sort out first before buying another guitar though. Asthma been kicking my ass lately. The meds are pricey as f*ck. I have 4 amps I need to sell though... and a couple guitars.

Way cool spec's and looking Gibson SG!   Yep, P90's are cool, I have a Eastwood Sidejack with hot P90's in it which I dig.
