What is the coldest you ever remember?
« on: January 03, 2014, 08:33:49 PM »
I remember once the temp getting down to -49f wind chill.  How about you Danny?
Does anyone ever read these things.  I have some guitars, some amps and some effects but none of them play the guitar for me.... Yet.

-10 or -15 real temp.   Looks like we are going to get some -10(actual temp) or so, Sun-Mon.

I was in Fairbanks Alaska on a flight to Vietnam and it was 18 below, and the wind was hitting 80mph.  They had us in one of those tunnel goodies that butts up to the side of the plane and leads you into the terminal.  The thing had doors, and my curiousity got the best of me, I had to see what -18 with 80mph wind felt like, so I opened the first door I saw.  The wind hit it like a frieght train and just about blew it off the hinges and plastered it to the side of the structure.  Needless to say I pissed everyone off!  A few hours later I was in Vietnam in 126 ddegree weather with 100% humidity......NICE!  Meanwhile it was about 80 here yesterday.  I was doing some work in the back yard and had to take off my "T" shirt because it was just too hot!

if you are feeling cold and want to feel warmer, visit verhoyansk, yakutsk, or oymyakon. you'll feel a lot warmer when you return. you can enjoy average january temperatures below -52,  average highs of -34, and lows hitting close to -90. and that is without windchill. average temperature stays below zero from september to may.
if you think i misspelled verhoyansk, i didn't, they misspell it in all the english literature. if you look at the russian spelling, it is verhoyanks.

We are scheduled for 4 deg Monday with a high of 17.  I hope the wind don't blow.
I have been fortunate enough to get a great bite of the Apple of Life. One thing I know for sure. Watch out for the Worms!

I was just talking about this last nite. Played a week at a bar in Bismarck ND two weeks before Christmas in 1975. One nite it got down to -25. With the wind -65.  In Chicago, the lowest was -21.

It was in the mid 70s today in San Jacinto.  Does that count?

My car was showing -2.  They said -7 on the radio.  Relatively balmy compared to -21/-47.  No wind to speak of here yet.  The worst thing here seems to be black ice.  Melted snow refreezing as a glaze.   Most of the schools here are closed.
