SHAKIN' ALL OVER!
« on: June 10, 2016, 10:10:33 PM »
We had a 5.2 earthquake last night off of the San Jacinto fault-line, with the epicenter being in Borrego Springs.  Started off just shakey-shakey and then developed some real horsepower!  It got the wind chime collection going pretty good!  I haven't found any real damage as of yet.  It comes with the territory in California.  I live about six blocks from the San Jacinto fault-line in the sunny, friendly town of, you guessed it, San Jacinto!

:yay!:

San Jacinto used to be almost completely rich people, then about 100 years ago a huge earthquake hit here, destroyed the whole town and all the rich people pulled up stakes and got the Hell out of here.  The fault runs right down main street, about six blocks from my house.  The San Jacinto fault connects to the San Andreas fault, which is the major fault-line in the state.  They connect in the San Jacinto Mountains, up bu Idyllwild where I've done all those Jazz festivals.  We're about 60 years overdue for a huge earthquake.  All of the earthquakes California has been having hasd been building up pressure on the San Jacinto.  5.2 is nothing to sneeze at, but the really big ones are closer to 8.0  On the South side of Hemet is Lake Domenigoni, which is the largest man made lake in the world.  Two sides of the lake are bordered by earthen dams.  I've always imagined that if a huge quake hits, neither of them are going to hold.

The really weird thing was that within minutes of the earthquake, half the people I know were on Facebook chatting it up about the whole affair.  California is so strange.  A big 5.2 rattles the town and no one bats an eye.  It rains a quarter of an inch, and the electricity goes out, there are pile-ups on the freeway, and you're lucky if the phone still works.

Yes, I know the big one is coming, but I've been through some big ones.  It's just a way of life around here.  I will admit this last one had me standing in a door jam for a few seconds, but that was about it.

Wow... To bad we can't change the name to Beaker's fault..  It just fits a little better.  When he plays the whole earth rejects it.
Does anyone ever read these things.  I have some guitars, some amps and some effects but none of them play the guitar for me.... Yet.
